Eighth Wonder of The World

King Kong
ID Number: 003
EDF Identification Date: 1958
Kaiju Type: Ape Deity
Height: 80 meters
Weight: 40,000 tons
Based on: King Kong with a little bit from a scrapped project.

There's a land not too far from the heart of Africa. A small piece of uncharted land wherein the natives residing it worship a towering idol. A protector who they claim was born out of thunders forged by the very gods themselves. A Guardian Beast...

In 1962, TTV, a pharmaceutical/Television conglomerate, wanted to do an article on a newly discovered species of berries known as Soma, native only to a particular African island known as Faruo. Intrigued by the fact the berries possess a powerful sedative-like effect stronger than any drug of its time, the board of TTV was eager to learn more and they ended up sending two of their best men, Osamu Sakurai and Kinsaburo Furue, along a ship crew, to try and negotiate a trade with the island's tribe's chief for a portion of their harvested berries and seeds. While skeptical at first, the chief eventually approved the trade but only if the men leave immediately for the next day. Seeing that they appear to be in good terms with the tribe, Sakurai and Furue accepted the condition, handing the tribe TTV's own brand of medicine and even taking the chance to document the native's prayer to their guardian deity.

But when night fall came, as the tribe and their guests slept, the scent of the berries attracted a giant octopus which began attacking the huts in search of its meal. With the villagers awakened and alerted by the raid, they hurled spears and show arrows while Sakurai peppered the creature with gunshots, though their weapons did little to hinder it from attacking. Just when it looks like all is lost, he appeared...

A spine-chilling roar bellowed from the thick forest of the village as a sudden thunder storm brew, thunderous foot fall echoed as another titanic creature made it's way to the village. The beast soon revealed itself as a 80 meter tall Gorilla, with blue, indistinguishable markings glowing from underneath this skin and hair, apparently sensing the distress of his people and answering their calls. Boulders and uprooted trees are soon used against the giant mollusk, before the ape goes limb-to-limb against the octopus in a grapple. But the giant knew this is an easy win; grabbing one of the boulders he just chucked, the ape stretched the sea creature away from him and smashed the boulder atop of of the octupus, crushing it dead in an instant. Sensing his victory, the gorilla pounded his chest and lumbers back into the jungle, with the storm dying out as quickly as it started.

The moment the TTV crew returned to Japan to tell their tale, Mr. Tako, the president of the company, wondered on the possibility of using this creature as a marketing ploy for the Soma berries, calling the creature "King Kong" after the 1932 American Film's titular fictional beast. However, with the three kaiju attacks still fresh from the public's mind, Furue decided against making this creature publicly known and see to it that it is for the best that they leave this Kong alone. Seeing how this sort of makes sense (and fearing that he'll lose his investments with this then-controversial idea), Tako begrudgingly agreed.

Then again, perhaps he didn't need to do anything to draw Kong out on public; by 1966, two years after Birth Island was discovered and the EDF had established a term and system with the island's guardians (The Shobijins) to relocate every captured wild kaiju to their land, a terrorist organization called the Red Bamboo captured a few locals from Faruo for human labor, planning to use them in hoarding their bio-chem weapons, one that would trigger any targeted monster into attacking anything in front of them.

By the time EDF was notified of this operation and sent their men to stop the group, they are shocked to find Kong, in his full presence, battling the Red Bamboo's guard monsters (three Ebirah and a pair of Ookondoru/ monster condors), in an attempt to rescue the captured natives. At first they were baffled to see the rumors of a giant gorilla deity turned out to be true, nevertheless, they saw who's side this beast is on.

Seeing the ape bought them time and had caused enough panic among the terrorist group, the EDF agents quickly salvaged the tribes people and fought off some of the men working for the Red Bamboo; but fate once again intervened, as the climatic battle against Kong and the last (and unusually larger) Ebirah accidentally made its way to the Red Bamboo's escape route and crushed every last member.

With the tribes people out of harm's way, Kong simply showed the upperhand by ripping off both of the Ebirah's claws. Tired yet satisfied that his real mission is over, the mighty ape left his handicapped opponent alone and made his way back to Faruo, where he will await for the time he is needed again by his people, or by his fellow guardian beasts...

Powers/Abilities:
~ as an apparent deity, Kong is immortal and impervious to mortal weapons. (Against another supernatural being, however, might be another thing.)
~ possesses the ability to summon thunderstorms but this is only apparent when he is in his home land. (meaning, Faruo)
~ Can emit blue energy from his hands that can burst pure electricity upon impact
~ can force streams of electricity through touch
~ draws strength by absorbing electricity
~ seems intelligent enough to understand human interactions, learns quite remarkable too especially when it comes to battles

Artist's Notes: Taller than Toho Kong and more inclining to a supernatural aspect, Kong here would be one of the many guardian beasts, deity-like physical enforcers of nature handled by the Cosmos, the spirits of balance. (Much like Mothra is to the Shobijins, but Kong lost his handler a long time ago...) And since Godzilla won't be re-appearing until a very long time, I'll let this obscure yet respectable Toho monster have his own spotlight!

I always thought Kong vs Ebirah would be a more believable film than Godzilla vs The Sea Monster, seeing how the monster king can just easily boil that giant shrimp and serve him with a nice side of tartar sauce with a simple heat ray, so I went for Kong's angle and I regret nothing out of it!

Also, changed Faro's spelling to Faruo to make it sound more "Native"

NEXT- Oodako
